ADHD Therapy
Understanding ADHD
Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can affect how a person manages attention, organization, follow-through, and emotional regulation. While ADHD is often associated with difficulty focusing, many individuals also experience challenges related to executive functioning, including task initiation, planning, prioritizing, time management, and sustaining effort.
Some people recognize these patterns early in life, while others begin to make sense of them later in adulthood. In many cases, individuals have spent years trying to keep up with expectations while privately experiencing frustration, self-doubt, or exhaustion.
ADHD can influence work, school, relationships, and daily responsibilities. Many individuals with ADHD are thoughtful, capable, and creative, yet still find it difficult to consistently translate intention into action.
Understanding these patterns can be an important step in developing more supportive and effective ways of working with them.
ADHD is often experienced not only at the individual level, but within relationships particularly in areas such as communication, emotional regulation, follow-through, and task management.
When these patterns are not understood, they can create cycles of frustration, misattunement, or disconnection between partners.
We also offer ADHD Couples Counselling, where both partners can better understand these dynamics and begin working with them in a more intentional and supported way.
Experiences That May Lead Someone to Seek Support
Therapy related to ADHD may support individuals who experience:
- Difficulty initiating or completing tasks
- Challenges with planning, organization, or prioritizing
- Time blindness or difficulty managing deadlines
- Forgetfulness or losing track of important details
- Emotional reactivity, frustration, or overwhelm
- Difficulty maintaining routines or consistency
- Feeling mentally overloaded by everyday responsibilities
- Shame or self-criticism related to productivity or follow-through
Many people with ADHD are aware of what needs to get done, yet continue to struggle with putting that knowledge into action. This can be discouraging and may affect confidence over time.
Therapy can provide space to better understand these patterns and explore ways of responding to them with greater clarity, support, and flexibility.
How We Work With ADHD
At Insight Therapy Centre, our approach to ADHD is collaborative, practical, and individualized.
We recognize that ADHD is not simply about attention. It can also affect executive functioning, emotional regulation, self-esteem, and the way people experience demands in everyday life.
Our work may include exploring patterns related to planning, avoidance, overwhelm, motivation, and internalized beliefs that may have developed over time. Clinicians may integrate cognitive approaches, somatic awareness, relational work, and supportive strategies for organization and follow-through.
Support is tailored to each person’s goals, needs, and capacity rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
