Hi, I’m Svitlana Chechel, a Registered Psychotherapist with a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology (Honours) from Yorkville University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services (Honours) from Athabasca University.

I provide psychotherapy to individuals and couples navigating trauma, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, and the long-term effects of chronic stress. My approach is collaborative, integrative, and grounded in evidence-informed practice.

Working With Me

Many individuals and couples who seek therapy are thoughtful and motivated, yet feel “stuck” despite insight and effort.

Therapy offers a structured and supportive space to explore patterns, strengthen coping capacity, and develop greater emotional and relational flexibility.

My role is to walk alongside you in this process, offering clinical guidance while respecting your autonomy, values, and lived experience.

My goal is to provide a compassionate, steady, and collaborative environment where you feel supported and empowered in your personal growth and relationships.

MIND-BODY INTERCONNECTEDNESS

My therapeutic philosophy is grounded in the understanding that emotional, psychological, and physical experiences are interconnected. Many concerns develop in response to unresolved experiences, long-standing relational patterns, and adaptations to stress.

I integrate somatic, cognitive, and trauma-informed approaches to support insight, emotional processing, and regulation.

MEMORY RECONSOLIDATION–INFORMED WORK

An importent component of my clinical work involves memory reconsolidation, a neuroscience-informed process that supports the updating of emotionally significant memories and associated beliefs when appropriate and clinically indicated.

This work is approached thoughtfully and collaboratively, at a pace guided by each client’s readiness and capacity.

PRACTICAL TOOLS AND COPING STRATEGIES

While we explore deeper patterns and underlying experiences, I also place strong emphasis on equipping individuals and couples with practical coping strategies and tools they can apply in everyday life.

Depending on your goals, our work may include:

  • Developing emotional regulation skills
  • Strengthening grounding and stress-management techniques
  • Improving communication patterns
  • Building healthier conflict resolution strategies
  • Clarifying boundaries and expectations
  • Increasing self-awareness and relational resilience

The aim is to ensure you leave sessions not only with insight, but with strategies that support meaningful change outside of therapy.

COUPLES & RELATIONSHIP WORK

In couples therapy, I support partners in understanding and working through the emotional and relational patterns that shape their dynamic. This includes both skills-based and processing work to address unresolved experiences, recurring conflicts, and emotional injuries within the relationship.

Our work may involve exploring attachment styles, communication cycles, conflict responses, unmet needs, and past relational experiences that continue to influence present interactions.

The focus is not on assigning blame, but on increasing understanding, accountability, emotional safety, and capacity for repair. Sessions are structured, balanced, and guided by clear therapeutic goals.

INTEGRATIVE THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

I draw from a range of evidence-informed and experiential approaches, including:

  • Internal Family Systems–informed (Parts Work)
  • Ego State Therapy
  • Coherence Therapy
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Somatic and body-based approaches
  • Mindfulness-based practices

These modalities are used flexibly and ethically, guided by clinical assessment, client consent, and professional standards.

Land Acknowledgment
We recognize that the land on which our work takes place is the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, covered by Toronto Purchase Treaty 13. We also honour the enduring presence of the Huron‑Wendat and Haudenosaunee peoples, who have been stewards of this land since time immemorial. Today, this territory remains home to many Indigenous peoples—First Nations, Inuit, and Métis—and we remain grateful to the caregivers of this land.

Thank you for reaching out.
